Can - Future Days (1973)

1. Future Days [9:31]
2. Spray [8:27]
3. Moonshake [3:01]
4. Bel Air [19:53]

From Allmusic.com:
DamoSuzuki's final effort is Can's most atmospheric and beautiful record, aspartan collection of lengthy, jazz-like compositions recorded withminimal vocal contributions. Employing keyboard washes to create abreezy, almost oceanic feel (indeed, two of the tracks are titled"Spray" and "Bel Air"), the mix buries Suzuki's voice to elevatedrummer Jaki Liebezeit's complex rhythms to the foreground; despite thedeceptive tranquility of its surface, Future Days is an intense work, bubbling with radical ideas and concepts.

distortionson a theme of music and life. to outline our sleeve the artist hastraced his ideas on the evolution of life through the all seeing eye.from life before birth? through conception, evolution, construction, resurrection and destruction. in all a total experience.

themusic as the titled indicate is an evolution of the avante-garde. hereis a fine example of modern composition sent into orbit by bluephantom. the music is indicative of various states of the human mindand could well be described as an audio experience.

probablyan italian band doing an "exploitation" album says about every site ilook at, but there's more attention to detail paid in this one than inmost cash-in recordings. first side gets a little cheesy here and therebut there are some real gems on the flip, like the almost kraftwerk 1style drift of "psycho-nebulous" or "distillation," which sounds likean alternate-universe "war pigs." the entire album is vocal-free,incidentally.

quoth the tapestry of delights:
Disturbing, subtly dissonant and even downright menacing, I wouldn'trecommend to listen to this daily, but I would certainly recommend itin small doses. A good soundtrack to your worst expectations, this isan unclassifyable hybrid of orchestrated pop and trips gone awry. Forthe strong-souled among us.

hi friends -
wantedto say thanks for all the great music posts recently. i'm of courseinto file sharing & have definitely been giving some of the lessesoteric/hard-to-find things a listen, but wanted to just give a shoutof support to the indie reissue labels that put this stuff out, as theyare often collectors & fans, just like us - i know that alan bishopworked hard comping the "choubi" set so hopefully these file shareswill spur us all to investigate what else we can buy from these greatmusicologists & catalogs, like beatrocket, sundazed, rev-ola,cherry red, gear fab, &c.

following is info on apothecaryhymns, who records for locust music (www.locustmusic.com) - fuzzed-outelectric pysch rockers coupled with introspective acidic folk. thedebut album has gotten raves in the wire, terrascope, & time out, among other places, & is even available as a limited ed 180g vinyl.four different mp3s are available here:

www.myspace.com/apothecaryhymns
www.locustmusic.com/apothecaryhymns.html

therewill be a locust showcase at south by southwest on thurs 3/16 at thehideout (www.hideouthteater.com), which will feature ethan rose, function (from australia), sir richard bishop, & kill the vultures.

&lastly, here is a link to the rare "farewell aldebaran" album by judyhenske & jerry yester. somehow, one track is missing from it, butthis should appeal to those who are on this board. more to comesoon.....

Hello everyone, I've been watching this group from time to time, and I thought that it looked pretty cool.
I'ma big fan of psychedelic music of all kinds, and prog and kraut-rockand the like. This seems to be a pretty cool site. I've recentlystarted to use yousendit and I'm figuring out how it all works, so Isuppose that I can upload a few obscure psych albums every now andthen. I've been spending the last year or so trying as hard as I can tofind as many obscure 60s psychedelic groups and compilations on recordand CD at stores (since I can't order things online)and I've acquiredsome really good stuff. I've recently got a hold of a burned copy of"Gandalf" by Gandalf, and it's incredibly awesome. I've also mademyself a 10 CD set of psychedelic songs from mostly obscure groups fromMP3 trades I've done with some deadheads. Through the same process, Igot a 2 disc Ultimate Spinach compilation, and I'm trying to find theiralbums in local record shops (I've only seen one of their albums once, and the antique store was selling it for 60 bucks!). Although I mostlylike to stick to buying the albums myself, but whatever works I guess.
Well anyway, this looks like a really cool place to be, and I'm glad that I stumbled upon it one day.

'Iam the Cosmos' released on Rykodisc is a flawed but beautiful, sensitive masterpiece panned out to 15 tracks by the inclusion ofalternate takes. The album kicks off with his crowning glory, thepassionate and powerful 'I am the Cosmos'. Both dark and uplifting atthe same time. The great cover picture of the singer head bowed andlost high above the snowy mountains animates the powerful imagery thissong evokes. Alex Chilton included the song in his reformed Big Starset and Ken Stringfellow of the Posies sung lead. His strikingrendition of this song is captured on the Big Star live album,Columbia. Well worth a listen.

Goodalbum, interesting mix of subject. I heard this was a difficult periodin Chris Bell's life, Big Star was no longer, and his religous valueswere in conflict with his lifestyle etc. The title track us superdooper good, really crazy changes of chords at odd timings, definatelypyschy.

From All Music Guide:

Thissounds like the solo album that George Harrison might have made beforehe left the Beatles, as several songs have that solemn, spiritual, forlorn quality Harrison perfected on cuts like "Long, Long, Long."With its languid guitars, organ, and somber mood, "Nobody" is soreminiscent of All Things Must Pass tracks like "Let It Roll" that oneis surprised to find that this album was done well before the releaseof All Things Must Pass in the early '70s. Although the lyrics areblatantly hippie-ish, the music itself sets a dignified, almost statelymood with its intimacy and tasteful restraint. "Fly" and "Nobody" aregenuine lost treasures of low-key late-'60s late psychedelia, and alonemake the album worth investigating. But it's inspired and pleasurablethe whole way through, down to the super-brief links and intros dottedthroughout the record.

Meticulouslyselected from Iraqi cassettes and LPs found in Syria, Europe and theIraqi neighborhoods of Detroit, Michigan, this unique collection offolk and pop styles displays a wealth of outstanding music that isexclusive to Iraq and has rarely been showcased abroad. There are manyreasons why Iraqi music stands alone in the dynamic world of Arabicmusic: one example is the unbelievable rapid fire machine-gun rhythmsfluttering atop the main tempo. This is the work of a unique nomadichand drum called the Khishba –also known as the Zanbour (Arabic forwasp). A style prominently featured here is the infamous Iraqi CHOUBI-a driving rhythmic style that can include fiddles, double reededinstruments, percussion, bass, keyboards and oud over its signaturebeat. Other styles featured are the BASTA (an urban Baghdadi style),the BEZIKH, and the pulsating HECHA. Also heard is the MAWAL- a vocalimprov that sets the tone of a song, regardless of the style.Additionally there are three cuts from Ja’afar Hassan’s 1970s record,"Let’s Sing Together". Being a folk-rock record, it’s a true anomalyfor Iraq. Hassan was a mouthpiece for the Iraqi Socialist movement justa few years before Saddam Hussein. But most of the music in thiscollection was produced during the Saddam period– between the 1980s and2002. Since the 2003 invasion and the wholesale disassembly of thecountry, classic tracks like these may already be part of a disappearedpast.

Sergius Golowin - Lord Krishna von Goloka

Overview:

Takea cup of space rock, add some acid folk, a pinch of electronic effectsand you have 'Lord Krishna von Goloka' from Sergius Golowin and theKosmische Kurierer gang (quite possibly their best album).Unfortunately, the album is in German, but it shouldn't take a geniusto figure out what is going on; Timothy Leary maybe, but a genius, no.'Der Reigen' opens the album and brings forth images of a cosmicjourney through time back to the medieval period of self-enlightenedgypsy wanderers. 'Die Weisse Alm' owes its existence to the Witthuserand Westrupp acid-folk sound. The track has an effective meditativequality in part driven by Golowin's slow, hypnotic annunciation of thelyrics which appear to float over top the majestic musical atmosphere.A bit looser than the previous two tracks, 'Die Hoch-Zeit' (The HighTime!) appears to be a bit more spur of the moment. The mood of thistrack often changes suddenly, moving from space rock to acid folk toelectronic ambience and everywhere in between, the track plays like atrip, hence the title. As somebody I met at a record convention put it:"Head-ie times my friend. Head-ie times indeed." [5/5 Doug]

Musicians:

Bernd Witthuser - Guitar
Walter Westrupp - Guitar
Sergius Golowin - Vocals
Jerry Berkers - Guitar
Jurgen Dollase - Keyboards
Klaus Schulze - Drums, Mellotron, Electronics, Organ, Guitar, Percussion
